What a Free Website Audit Actually Checks (and How to Read Your Scores)
Most small business owners have no real idea whether their website is healthy. It loads when they check it on their phone, so it must be fine.
Meanwhile, Google might be skipping half the pages, the site might be crawling along on mobile, and the AI assistants people now use to find local businesses might be blocked from reading it at all. None of that is visible from the homepage.
A website audit tells you what's actually going on. Ours is free, needs no signup, and gives you results in under two minutes.
Three scores, three questions
Site Health: can search engines find, read & trust your site? This covers technical SEO, crawlability, broken links, meta tags, headings, content quality and how your pages link to each other.
AI Search Health: can AI assistants understand your site? This looks at whether AI crawlers are allowed in, your structured data, your page structure, llms.txt, and whether your content is ready for tools like ChatGPT, Gemini & Perplexity. We go deeper on this one in Is your website ready for AI search?
Performance: how fast does it load? Core Web Vitals, page speed on mobile & desktop, render-blocking resources, image optimization, caching & compression.
What the audit looks at
The audit runs 70+ automated checks and crawls up to 100 pages of your site.
- Crawlability: your robots.txt and sitemap, pages accidentally hidden from Google with a noindex tag, and how many clicks deep your important pages sit.
- Security & HTTPS: SSL certificate status, whether visitors are redirected to the secure version of your site, and mixed content (images or scripts still loading insecurely).
- On-page SEO: page titles & meta descriptions, headings, canonical tags, how your pages look when shared on social media, and thin or duplicate content.
- Internal linking: orphan pages that nothing links to, vague link text like "click here", and how link authority flows through your site.
- Structured data: the behind-the-scenes markup that tells search engines & AI tools what your business is.
- AI search readiness: AI crawler access, semantic page structure & llms.txt.
- Accessibility: color contrast, form labels, tap targets & heading order.
- Speed: Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores for both mobile & desktop.
How to read your results
Start with the list, not the number. A score is a summary. Two sites with the same score can have completely different problems, so the list of issues is where the value is.
Work through it by severity. Issues are grouped into errors, warnings, and notices. Errors come first because they're the most likely to be costing you visitors right now. Warnings are worth fixing next. Notices are polish.
Fix, then re-run. You can audit the same website up to 3 times a day, so fix a few things and run it again to confirm they're gone.
See how you stack up. Our side-by-side audit runs your site & a competitor's at the same time, so you can see exactly where you're ahead and where you're behind.
What you get
Your scores appear on screen as soon as the audit finishes. Enter your email and we'll unlock the full list of issues, including the affected pages & a recommendation for each one, and send you the detailed report as a PDF.
A couple of practical notes: subdomains (like blog.yoursite.com) are audited separately, and the audit covers up to 100 pages per run.
Would rather someone else handled the fixes?
That's what we do. Stacq is a comprehensive online presence management platform for small businesses. We build & manage your website, and every Stacq client gets a full audit like this one every month, plus monitoring in between, so problems get caught long before they cost you.
